Position Summary

The Allied Health Intern will work under the supervision of experienced healthcare professionals in the Allied Health Program at UHS. This internship is designed to provide hands-on, real-world experience to students pursuing a career in the allied health field, including physical therapy, speech therapy, and other allied health disciplines. The intern will assist in patient care activities, support clinical teams, and gain exposure to the hospital's multidisciplinary approach to health services.

Summary of Main Duties

  • Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital Sharjah (UHS).
  • Complies with all UHS policies, procedures and fire regulations
  • Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS to attain and maintain international accreditation standards
  • Respect all patients, staff, and clinical supervisors at all times; respect the rights of patients including the right to confidentiality; and safeguarding patients’ privacy.
  • Provide competent, compassionate, and respectful care to all patients regardless of characteristics such as race, national origin, color, religion, gender, age, disease, or disability.

Responsibilities

  • Report any unusual incidents occurrence in the duty such as patient safety events (clinical events) and near misses, according to hospital policy.
  • Assist with patient assessments, preparation, and treatment protocols under the supervision of licensed clinicians.
  • Assist in the setup, maintenance, and cleaning of medical equipment and therapy tools used in daily patient care.
  • Adhere to the internship regulations of the hospital.
  • Observe a variety of procedures, treatments, and therapies in different allied health disciplines, including physical therapy, and speech therapy.
  • Follow guidelines/practices of infection control.
  • Participate in disaster drill and related mandatory training applicable.
  • Be aware of the key performance indicators especially indicators related to patient care outcomes.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

To participate in the Allied Health Internship Program, applicants must submit the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): A detailed CV highlighting educational qualifications, prior experience (if applicable), and professional skills.
  • Other Relevant Documents: Any supporting documents related to the intern's academic achievements, certifications, or previous clinical experience.

BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate: A valid BLS certification, which is essential for any healthcare professional working in clinical environments to ensure patient safety in emergency situations.

The duration of the internship will vary depending on SHA’s policies and criteria. It will generally range from 6 months to 1 year, depending on the specific requirements of the intern's field and progress during the program.
