Position Summary

PHYSICIAN INTERN

To assess patient needs, plan, implement and evaluate the plan of patient care. Provide safe, quality ethical medical care in accordance with the Hospital, International and Institutional standards and regulations

Summary of Main Duties

  • Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital Sharjah (UHS)
  • Complies with all UHS policies, procedures and fire regulations
  • Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS to attain and maintain international accreditation standards
  • The physician intern is responsible for assessing patient needs, planning physician care, implementing the plan of care, and evaluating results of such care in accordance with the policies and standards of the hospital.
  • To maintain a clear and legible patient's documents of assigned patient’s records according to hospital documentation policy.
  • Comply with all hospital policies and procedures, and all care is provided within the quality and patient safety standards of the hospital.
  • Participate in the patient handover process to promote continuity of care and patient safety as per hospital policy.

  • Maintain ethical performance and show full commitment and adherence to the behavioral expectations, morals, life-long learning and professional ethics.
  • Be responsive to patient needs that surpasses their own interest such being able to refer or seek another opinion from another specialty if required.
  • Maintaining security, confidentiality, and privacy of information in the intern experience.
  • Attend in time, dress appropriately, wear a name badge and identify themselves as interns.
  • Assurance of their fitness for work by effective time management before, during and after their duty.
  • Be able to recognize and report illness, burnout, depression, fatigue, suicidal ideation, potential for violence and substance abuse for themselves (self-reporting), their colleagues, and other hospital staff.
  • Accurate reporting of clinical and educational work hours, patient outcomes, and clinical experience.
  • Respect all patients, staff, and clinical supervisors at all times; respect the rights of patients including the right to confidentiality; and safeguarding patients’ privacy.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

Required

  • Graduates from the College of Medicine - University of Sharjah.
  • Minimum 50% of the selected students shall be UAE local nationals. In case of non-availability of the UAE Local Nationals, the reserved portion can be allocated to Expatriate category.

  • SHA Private license

Position criteria Other Skills/Abilities

  • Computer literate familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, PPT
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English, spoken Arabic an advantage

 

  • Have knowledge of current evidence-based medical practice.
  • Demonstrate proven ability to apply theory to practice (assessed during panel interview and selection process).
  • Basic data management skills
