Position Summary
Responsible to work in Audiology Clinic in close relation with ENT, Paediatric, Neonatology departments by doing the hearing evaluation for infants and children, hearing and balance evaluation of adults and geriatric population and if required hearing aid trial/ fitting, cochlear implant mapping/ counselling.
Summary of Main Duties
• Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital – Sharjah (UHS)
• Performs diagnostic evaluations of the patients hearing abilities and vestibular function, conferred with appropriate professionals regarding patient care and management, initiated appropriate rehabilitative services.
• Conducts Universal Neonatal hearing screening program at UHS including, OAE’s and AABR.
• Performing NRT while doing CI surgery.
• Perform Cochlear Implant Mapping and Monitor the CI outcome in children and adults
• Perform hearing aids trial and fitting for children, adults and geriatric patients with hearing loss. by doing aided audiogram, REM, and programming of hearing aids
• Perform diagnostic vestibular evaluation for children, adults and geriatric population when required and initiate the vestibular rehabilitation process.
• Counsels patients with hearing loss regarding their type and degree of hearing loss and possible rehabilitation methods, benefits and limitations of hearing aids, hearing aid technology, patients candidacy for hearing aids, cochlear implants etc,
• Responsible and in charge for the Audiology Unit
• Measures hearing acuity and vestibular assessment of patients of all ages, using Pure Tone Audiometry, Immittance Audiometry, Behavioral Observation Audiometry, Electrocochleography (EcohG), Auditory Brainstem response Audiometry (ABR), Late Latency Response (LLR), Auditory Steady State Response (ASSR), Speech Evoked ABR, Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential (VEMP), Video Head Impusle test(vHIT), Video Nystagmography, Rotary chair tests etc.
Responsibilities
• Performs differential diagnosis of patients with cochlear ,vestibular, retro cochlear, Auditory neuropathy and central auditory processing deficits by performing tests like SPIN, ,High and Low rate ABR, VEMP, ARLT and CAPD tests
• Conducts CME for Medical Professionals and Allied health professionals.
• In-charge for all the equipment’s in the Audiology clinic
• Responsible for coordinating the cochlear implant program at UHS
• Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS attain and maintain international accreditation standards
• Self Professional Development: Participate in internal orientation (mandatory), internal ongoing Continual Medical Education programs (CME), attend external conferences, workshops, seminars and courses that will enhance and maintain a current knowledge base.
• Provide clinical teaching to the students when and where required from the UOS
• The employment terms and conditions for this position are specified in the individuals Employment Contract
• Will retain all necessary registration/license requirements

- Mandatory: Master’s Degree in Audiology/Speech & Hearing
Desirable: Doctor of Audiology (AuD)/PhD

• Must have a valid UAE MOH Evaluation

• Minimum 7 years’ experience as Senior Audiologist at Hospital settings

• Maintains the audiology clinic equipment’s with high technical efforts, daily calibration, assists in routine internal calibration by maintaining up-to-date quality control and/or quality assurance records.
